Apprenticeships​​​​​​​

Get experience with us. DCT seeks a diverse pool of applicants for our Apprentice program. We are especially looking to include BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) applicants for the following areas: Production, Communications, and Education.

Dallas Children's Theater often uses qualified college undergraduate or graduate students to work in full- or part-time internships. Our apprenticeships pay $250 per week for 30-35 hours per week and the duration ranges from five to 30 weeks depending on the needs of the program.

Areas for apprenticeship may include:

Stage Management: Observe and work alongside our professional AEA stage managers in all phases of production; from auditions and callbacks, through rehearsals, even assisting backstage during performances.

Technical Production: Choose an area of focus or participate as a generalist. Observe and work alongside professional technicians and receive feedback on projects that enhances educational experience. Production areas include Scenery, Costumes, and Lighting.

Development: Assist the Development Department with the annual fund campaign, fundraising events, and grant proposal writing. Duties may include research, planning, computer data entry, mailing list maintenance, and general office assistance.

PR/Marketing: Assist the PR/Marketing Department in the promotion and sales of all productions, education programs, and special events for the theater. Duties may include writing press releases, newsletter preparation, general office work, and customer relations.

Box Office: Assist in ticket sales, customer relations, and all aspects of computerized box office operations.

Community Engagement: Brainstorm, plan, and implement strategies to engage diverse families and ensure all are aware of the benefits of live theater for their children and for their families. The apprentice will also spend time in the community representing DCT and collaborating with other cultural and advocacy organizations.

Academy Class Assistant: Assist with the operation of the DCT Academy Classes. Duties may include assisting instructors with classes, rehearsals, and performance of classes; organizing supplies, costumes, and props; assisting onstage or backstage with class shows; assisting front-of-house during class shows; and assisting with arrival check-in and departure carpool of the students.
